DCOM MONEY EXPRESS
Remittance Service App & User Portal Website
In this project, I led the design of a multilingual user portal and laid the groundwork for future mobile applications, enhancing accessibility and user experience for millions. By navigating complex language requirements and developing a flexible design system, I delivered a solution that ensures consistency across devices and meets diverse user needs.

About DCOM
DCOM Money Express is a premier remittance service provider from Japan, facilitating financial transactions to various Southeast Asian countries such as The Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam since 2011. Serving a diverse demographic, DCOM has established itself as a leader in the industry, known for its reliable and user-friendly services.

Goals
The primary objective of this project was to develop a user portal site (Web app), laying the groundwork for subsequent mobile and tablet application. This initiative aimed to provide millions of DCOM's users with an accessible, secure, and personalized online platform, ensuring 24/7 access to all remittance services.
My role
As the lead designer, my responsibilities encompassed:
• Crafting all visual designs and prototypes.
• Establishing a new design system for product consistency.
• Collaborating closely with the project manager, front-end and back-end development teams.

Design process
My approach to this project was methodical and user-centered:
• Conducting extensive research to understand the current user flow.
• Organizing meetings with the client to grasp their user base, business requirements, and desired user flow, including consultations with the customer service team to address common queries.
• Adopting an Agile development methodology, emphasizing understanding, collaboration, learning, and flexibility for optimal results.

Challenges & solutions
Multilingual Design:
The requirement to support five languages (English, Filipino, Vietnamese, Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia) presented a unique challenge, especially in selecting fonts that were optimal across languages. Noto Sans Japanese was chosen for its compatibility with Japanese characters, while Inter font served well for the remaining languages. Adjustments such as reducing the font size to 18px for screen titles were made to accommodate longer translations and ensure important information fit within the viewport.
Flexible Design System:
Developing a design system flexible enough to seamlessly integrate with both web and mobile/tablet apps was paramount. Through iterative design and testing, a system that maintained consistency and usability across platforms was successfully implemented.

Conclusion
The project's success was marked by the creation of a user-friendly, multilingual portal and the foundation for a cohesive design system. My role facilitated the bridging of user needs with technical solutions, showcasing my ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver a product that enhances the user experience for DCOM's diverse clientele.
